Two teenagers have been arrested after allegedly ramming a police vehicle during a chase across Auckland this evening.
Inspector Tony Wakelin, of the police northern communications centre, said the stolen vehicle was spotted in Mission Bay at 6.28pm.
Officers commenced a pursuit, following the vehicle to Sylvia Park where it got onto the Southern Motorway and continued to Papakura.
While the vehicle didn't reach excessive speeds, it allegedly rammed a police dog unit in its attempt to escape, Wakelin said. No-one was injured.
On three occasions the vehicle avoided strategically-placed road spikes but eventually drove over spikes on Hunua Rd in Papakura. It continued some 4km to Lakeside Drive, despite only having three wheels in tact.
It eventually came to a halt at 7.09pm.
A police spokesman said the 19-year-old female driver and 17-year-old male passenger were being spoken to at Auckland central police station and would face several driving and dishonesty-related offences.
The vehicle was stolen from Orakei on Wednesday.
