Former South African President Nelson Mandela has died. He was 95.

South Africa's president Jacob Zuma said: "He is now resting. He is now at peace. Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father.

"Our thoughts are with his friends, comrades and colleagues who fought alongside Madiba."

Mandela spent almost three months in hospital after being admitted in June after another lung infection. His lung problems date back to his time in prison when he was diagnosed with early-stage tuberculosis.
