A woman has died after being shot in the head at a Gold Coast McDonald's restaurant by a man who then turned the gun on himself.
The incident occurred at the Helensvale fast food outlet on Thursday morning, with paramedics rushing to the Signato Drive site after reports two people
had suffered gunshot wounds.
The woman died at the scene and a man known to her has been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.He remains in a serious condition.
Police have closed the restaurant's car park as detectives question distraught witnesses, including staff and patrons.Traffic is being diverted from the area just beside the Pacific Motorway on the Gold Coast's northern corridor towards Brisbane.
Police are expected to address the media about the fatal shooting shortly.
