US priest jailed for abuse

A defrocked Catholic priest was given the maximum sentence of up to 10 years in jail for child abuse, in a case at the heart of a damaging paedophilia scandal in the Boston diocese.

Judge Sandra Hamlin sentenced John Geoghan to nine to 10 years in prison, at Middlesex Superior court.

The case is just the first of many hanging over Geoghan, who has been accused by more than 130 people of molesting them over the course of his 30 years as a priest.
