“The bag had been tampered with, so I pulled up my doorbell camera and seen that the lady who dropped the food off had actually tampered with it on purpose for some reason.”
Security footage shows a woman with dark hair with purple highlights, a black leather jacket, white t-shirt and jeans approaching the door calmly.
She is then seen placing the food bag on the ground, taking a photo of it with her left hand, while spritzing the bag with an unidentified liquid with her right hand.
“We assume it’s pepper spray, that’s more than likely what is it,” Cardin said.
“But in this day and age, it could’ve been anything.
“It could’ve been rat poison, it could’ve been fentanyl, I mean, my wife could’ve been dead.”
The Indiana couple contacted DoorDash, who promptly provided a refund.
No charges have been brought against the driver, but Cardin said, “I definitely want to see her prosecuted.”
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, 14 News reported.
Despite the driver’s apparently deliberate tampering, the couple still tipped her.
“We live in a terrible world right now, horrific,” Cardin said.
“People are mean for no reason, there was no reason for her to do what she done.”
The incident has left the couple unsure if they would ever order food to be delivered again.
“I would say to anybody, if you order food on any kind of delivery service, make sure you have a doorbell [camera],” Cardin said.
“This is making me second-guess ever ordering food from anywhere ever again.”
