The US has flown two strategic bombers near the Sea of Japan in a show of military strength amid North Korea's continued defiance over its nuclear and missile programs.
The US Air Force B-1B bombers were deployed from a base in the Pacific on Guam - which North Korean leaderKim Jong Un has threatened with a missile strike - and conducted training exercises with South Korean and Japanese fighter jets.
The mission demonstrated how the US is "always ready to defend the American homeland and how the US stands resolutely with Japan and (South Kore) ... to safeguard security and stability," US Pacific Air Forces said.
The mission, conducted near the Sea of Japan, marks the first time the B1-B bombers have conducted night time exercises with the Japanese and South Korean air forces, Pacific Air Forces said.
