Police were called to the Town Centre in Aurora, Colorado at about 4.30pm local time on Sunday following reports a child had fallen fromthe second floor of the shopping complex.
Police say the child fell out of his dad's arms and over the railing of the escalator after reportedly lunging forward, causing his dad to lose his grip.
Witnesses described hearing a woman screaming before some saw the boy lying unconscious on the ground, according to FOX31.
"At first, everybody was crowded around him and I think someone was checking his vitals," Cesar Solorzano said.
