Donald Trump has hinted at a trade deal with the UK post-Brexit and says he wants to help the country because "you don't hear the word Britain anymore".
The comments were made in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. The full transcript of the interview was leaked to Politico last night.
Trump says he wants a "big trade deal" with the UK once Brexit is complete.
"I can say that we're going to be very involved with the UK. I mean, you don't hear the word Britain anymore. It's very interesting. It's like, nope," Trump told the WSJ.
Earlier, Trump had already taken to his favourite form of communication, Twitter, to talk about a potential deal with the UK.
He said it could be "very big & exciting".
In the same interview, Trump also revealed he is worried about Scotland gaining independence from the UK as it could have an adverse effect on golf.
"Is Scotland going to go for the vote, by the way? You don't see it. It would be terrible. They just went through hell," he told the interviewer.
"One little thing, what would they do with the British Open if they ever got out? They'd no longer have the British Open."
Trump manages to momentarily steer the interview towards golf but the reporter brings it back to this "big & exciting" trade deal.
"I have a very good relationship with the prime minister. And we are absolutely looking to do a major trade deal," Trump assured.
Questioned about when this deal would kick in, he responded: "As soon as it's appropriate to have it kick in, absolutely. And it'll be a big trade deal - much, much more business than we do right now, many, many times."
