‘Too late to leave’: Dire warning as bushfires rip through Worrowing Heights, NSW

Residents on NSW’s South Coast have been told to seek immediate shelter as fire crews battle a raging fire rapidly approaching homes.

An emergency warning was issued for residents in Worrowing Heights after 4.20pm following dangerous winds and hot temperatures.

Firefighters warned residents in the area it was “too late to leave”.

“If you are in the Worrowing Heights area, you are in danger,” a statement reads.

“If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure such as a house to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.”

The bushfire is about 7000sq m in size and burning north of Sanctuary Point, south of The Wool Rd and to the west and east of Larmer Ave.

The flames are yet to be contained, fire crews said.

Residents in Sanctuary Point, Old Erowal Bay and Erowal Bay have been told to “prepare now” as conditions worsen in the South Coast.

A watch and act warning is also in place for residents in Glen Alice as crews work to contain a bushfire burning in remote areas to the west of Glen Alice.
