As the Las Vegas tragedy unfolded, many people, including celebrities and politicians, took to social media to express their sadness and send out their condolences.

As the worst mass shooting in modern US history took place, #ThoughtsAndPrayers quickly began to trend on Twitter.

Many people of influence sent Las Vegas their "thoughts and prayers" and called on others to "pray for Las Vegas".

My heart and prayers goes out to victims, families & loved ones! #PrayForLasVegas

      — Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) October 2, 2017

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of #LasVegas.

Our prayers and deepest condolences are with all those affected by the evil perpetrated in #lasvegas #lasvegasshooting

      — Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) October 2, 2017

To victims, families & loved ones affected by this senseless violence in Las Vegas, Karen & I are praying for you & offering our love...

      — Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) October 2, 2017

...The hearts & prayers of the American people are with you. You have our condolences and sympathies.

      — Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) October 2, 2017

It is days like this that we should stop and thank all the men and women in uniform, who sacrifice their own lives every day to help others. pic.twitter.com/RupwRL7NzR

      — Eric Trump (@EricTrump) October 2, 2017

It seems that, with "thoughts and prayers" being dished out tragedy after tragedy but seemingly no action being taken to stop these attacks, some people are sick of the "empty" status updates.

While the sentiment is nice, Twitter users called out the fact that those in power need to do more than "pray" for Las Vegas.

Thoughts and prayers don't stop mass shootings.#GunControlNow

      — Dana Weiss (@TheDanaWeiss) October 2, 2017

Politicians will learn of this horrific mass shooting and offer their empty #ThoughtsAndPrayers, which they use as a way to avoid action pic.twitter.com/lmjvAvOUB6

      — Khary Penebaker (@kharyp) October 2, 2017

If you're in a position to create legislation to decline shootings & don't, then f*** your “thoughts and prayers.”
      Las Vegas #GunControlNOW

      — Jeeniya (@jeeniya90) October 2, 2017

America needs #GunControlNow, not #thoughtsandprayers. The former will save lives and the latter is just an empty platitude. pic.twitter.com/lSIufcTVMB
