The guinea in the 'Guinness'

New Zealanders were among those helped a Welsh guinea pig named Sooty set a new world record for the most Valentine cards sent to a guinea pig.

The three-year-old rodent from Wales received 206 cards - including some from New Zealand - to gain a bizarre entry in the latest edition of Guinness World Records, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Other weird and wacky achievers to make it into print include Briton Paul Hunn, who took the record for the world's loudest burp. Louder than a pile driver, his burps can be heard from a distance of 30m.

Not to be outdone, Canadian Christa Rasanayagam set a new record when accompanied up the aisle by no less than 79 bridesmaids, aged from 1 to 79.
