He said child protection authorities may also be brought in depending on the expected duration of Chesser’s time in custody.
South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas said tailored healthcare would be available to ensure the wellbeing of Chesser and her baby.
“Women who find themselves pregnant while in custody have access to very specific services that are tailored to prison health,” he said.
“Just as importantly, if not more importantly, the wellbeing of a life that exists in utero is being looked after as well.”
It is unclear if the unborn child is Story’s, as the father’s identity has not been disclosed.
The 39-year-old’s dismembered remains were discovered at the couple’s home on June 19 after police responded to reports of a fire, 9 News reported.
Chesser was found in a “catatonic and unresponsive state” at the scene, alongside Story’s headless corpse.
His skull was located in nearby bushland a month later by dog walker Tyson McCallum, who told the publication the unintended discovery was “pretty surreal”.
“I just went in a bit closer and kind of made the connection pretty quickly as to what I thought it was.”
Amidst the search for the victim’s severed head, Chesser’s sister spoke to 9 News about her sibling’s mental condition and apologised to Story’s family.
“It’s my sister, but that’s not who she is or the Tamika we know”, she said, “that’s not the Tamika anyone knows”.
Chesser starred on Beauty and the Geek back in 2010, when she was just 20 years old.
The Australian reality show pairs self-professed “beauties” and “geeks” with one another, competing in a series of challenges designed to encourage self-development.
Chesser came second place on her season of the show, going on to work as a model for Target.
