Sweetener all sweet

The United States Environmental Protection Agency says it has dropped the artificial sweetener saccharin from its list of hazardous substances.

The powder, dubbed a potential cancer-causing agent in 1980, had stayed on the EPA's potential hazard list even though the National Toxicology Programme and the International Agency for Research on Cancer cleared it in the late 1990s.
