Moananu, who was unlicensed, faced 10 charges at a bedside court hearing yesterday in Westmead Hospital after sustaining severe leg injuries when he allegedly veered the car onto the wrong side of the road. The charges include two counts of manslaughter, two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts negligent driving occasioning death and aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The father-of-four of Glenmore Park was trapped for a short time before being removed and taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.
Two other cars had to take evasive action to avoid also crashing and Moananu has also been charged with injuring one of these drivers who suffered minor facial injures.
He didn't apply for bail and will appear in Penrith Local Court on Thursday.
