SYDNEY - Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone has been fined $A2,975 ($NZ3389) for bringing banned hormones into Australia.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Paul Cloran also ordered Stallone to pay the prosecution costs of $10,000.
The 60-year-old actor had earlier pleaded guilty in the Downing Centre Local Court to importing 45vials of human growth hormone and possessing four vials of testosterone.
The magistrate said Stallone had tried to deceive customs officers by claiming to have a prescription for the human growth hormone, Jintropin, found in his luggage at Sydney airport in February.
He said Jintropin was not legally available for retail use in the United States and therefore could not be prescribed.
He also referred to an interview Stallone had with customs officers in which he was asked why he took the human growth hormone.
The actor had replied that as you got older, the pituitary gland slowed and you felt older.
"This stuff gives your body a boost and you feel and look good," Stallone said.
"Doing Rambo is hard work and I am going to be in Burma for a while.
"Where do you think I am going to get this stuff in Burma?"
Stallone stopped in Australia before travelling to Asia to work on his new film.
