Sri Lanka rejects Nordic monitors' massacre claims

Sri Lanka has stepped up its campaign against Nordic truce monitors who accused government forces of involvement in the killing of 17 employees of a French aid group.

After accusing the monitors of being "biased" and "unprofessional," the office coordinating the peace process in Sri Lanka said the allegation had undermined an ongoing inquiry into the massacre.

Last week, the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission chief Ulf Henricsson said he had concluded that the military was involved in the August 4 killings in Muttur.

The massacre came during a bloody new phase in the conflict between government forces and Tamil Tiger rebels which has shattered a ceasefire in place since 2002.
