CHICAGO - A sheriff's deputy shot and killed six young people in the northern Wisconsin town of Crandon before being killed himself after a manhunt, a local TV station quoted police and witnesses as saying.
The Forest County Sheriff's Department said seven people were dead, including the shooter,Tyler Peterson, according to a report on the WJFW-TV website.
The sheriff's department would not confirm details.
The report cited eyewitnesses who said about 10 people, ages 17 to 20, were in a home when Peterson went on a shooting rampage at about 3am.
Crandon is in a remote location about 362km north of Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper reported on its website that two of the victims were high school students and four others were recent graduates. They were attending a party when the shootings took place.
