After months of the controversial Right Hand Drive debate, the Government of Samoa has finally announced the date when Samoa will switch from driving on the right to the left.
The Minister of Transport Tuisugaletaua Aveau announced yesterday that the Section 1 of the Road Transport Reform
Act 2008 of Samoa will come into force at 6.00am on Monday, September 7, 2009.
His statement reads: "The public is hereby informed that the required position for all vehicles being driven, parked or otherwise used in Samoa under normal traffic conditions shall shift from the right hand side to the left hand side of the centre point of the roadway."
To mark the switch date, the Minister also advised that September 7 and 8 2009 are now declared as public holidays to "allow for familiarisation with the change."
Meanwhile the court case against the Government by the Peoples Against Switching Sides (PASS) will commence on the 4th of August.
