Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, of the outlandish denials and boundless optimism, has become an internet star.

Fans have set up a website featuring his more outrageous quotes.

Sahhaf, who became a cult figure on television with his daily briefings, disappeared this week after US forces entered Baghdad.

He had confidently boasted that the city was safe and the invaders would be slaughtered, even as US tanks rumbled down streets nearby.
