Russian sailor crashes massive cargo ship after downing 16 shots of rum

A Russian sailor ran a 7000-tonne cargo ship aground at full speed after downing half a bottle of rum, equivalent to sixteen shots.

He was drinking at the bar on the cargo boat prior to starting his shift.

The cliche in motion - rum, sailors - happened on the rocky Kilchoan coast off Scotland.

The incident report, released this week by a Scottish maritime agency, has confirmed drinking was the reason behind the crash.

The man had fallen asleep - understandably - after his massive binge while the boat careened towards the coast.

According to the report, the ship's bar "was regularly replenished, and empty beer, wine and spirit bottles and cartons found on board after the accident indicated significant levels of alcohol consumption by the crew".

What did they do with the drunken sailor? He's reportedly "very much unemployed at this moment".
