His mugging during the London riots shocked the world.
Footage of a bleeding Malaysian man - robbed by looters who appeared first to come to his aid - became one of the one of the most watched videos of the violence that engulfed the British capital.
Now Mohammad Asyraf Haziq says he wants to stay in his adopted country.
The 20 year old was on his way to buy food to break his Ramadan fast when he was attacked by rioters, Malaysia's Star Times reported.
He was wounded and bleeding on the street when another gang of rioters pretended to help him, only to steal more gear from his backpack.
The incident was captured on video by a resident and posted by several major British newspapers including The Telegraph and The Sun.
Haziq lost his wallet and mobile phone in the attack and was now receiving treatment for a broken jaw and disjointed teeth at the Royal London Hospital, the Star Times reported.
London Umno Club president Dzuhair Hanafiah said Mohd Asyraf was walking with his friends to buy food when they were confronted by a group of gangsters.
"His friends managed to escape but he was attacked."
Despite his injuries, Hanafiah said his friend was in good spirits and insisted on staying in the area where the attack happened, the Associated Press reported.
"He says, 'No, I still love Barking ... what happened has happened."
Haziq's mother Maznah Abu Mansor was informed about the attack by police officers.
"I was initially very worried but I'm glad that he is all right. However, I am not able to talk to him because of his injuries."
