Radio prank DJ files claim against employer

One of the radio DJs linked to the suicide of a British nurse after a prank call is accusing her employer of failing to maintain a safe workplace.

Radio host Mel Greig, who is yet to return to work, has filed a claim against Southern Cross Austereo with Fair Work Australia, her lawyers confirmed on Wednesday.

The action comes seven months after Ms Greig and colleague Michael Christian made a prank call to London's King Edward VII Hospital, where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for severe morning sickness.

The presenters were put through to her ward by nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who took her own life soon after the hoax was widely publicised in the British media.

Ms Greig's lawyers said the matter would proceed to "confidential conciliation'' under the Fair Work Act.

They said she was still employed by Austereo, and wouldn't be making any comments on the matter.

Fair Work Australia gave no details of the nature of the claim.

Ms Greig has been granted permission to appear as an individual at an inquest into Ms Saldanha's death, due in London in September.

Last month Austereo awarded her former co-host Mr Christian the title of "Top Jock''.
