Queensland man dead after police shooting

A man has died after being shot by police south of Brisbane, Australia.

Police were called to a home in the Queensland town of Ipswich after reports of a disturbance last night.

Sergeant Kim McCoomb says when the officers arrived, a man allegedly ran towards them with a knife.

She says he then hit an officer on the head with a bottle.

"One of the officers fired some shots from his service revolver. The man was taken to the Ipswich Hospital but died a short time later," she said.

Queensland's Ethical Standards Command will investigate the incident.
