Prince Harry has revealed his fatherhood struggles and discussed the benefits of therapy sessions during his visit to an AFL club.
The Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, have visited Australia for a four-day tour, seven years after their last arrival in the country.
Harry journeyed to Whitten Oval, home of the AFL’s Western Bulldogs, for a panel on men’s health with the Movember Institute, where he told the audience about his fatherhood struggles.
“It’s the most important and transformational role a guy can ever move into,” he said about being a father.
The Duke of Sussex said therapy was a sign of strength and pleaded with new dads to talk about their mental health after research from Movember found 60% of Australian dads surveyed said no health professionals asked about their mental health during pregnancy or in the 12 months after birth.
“Don’t ever let yourself get to the point where you are no use to anybody,” he said.
“You want to be the best version of yourself for your kids.”
Earlier in the day, Harry spent some time kicking a ball around with the Western Bulldogs and took advice from players Tom Liberatore, Matthew Kennedy and Adam Treloar.
The club gifted him two jerseys for the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet, as well as a scarf.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are both expected to be in attendance for the Waratahs’ match on Friday against Moana Pasifika, who announced earlier the franchise will disband at the end of the season.
