‘Pretty scary’: Police operation after public shooting outside Sydney gym

The target of a brazen daylight shooting outside a Sydney gym was reportedly a former Assyrian gang member.

Former member of the True Kings gang and professional boxer Steve Hallaby was leaving the Gregory Hills World Gym about 8.35am on Friday when two gunmen allegedly fired several shots.

Shocking footage shows him standing next to his ute with his phone out when the two gunmen begin shooting.

Several bullets flew into the gym and a Service NSW office, forcing people to take cover.

Acting Superintendent Gretchen Atkins later confirmed police had spoken with Hallaby.

“We have spoken with him this morning,” she said.

“He’s not assisting us with our inquiries at this point in time.”
