SYDNEY - A man wearing a Spider-man mask robbed a video store of its takings - then repeatedly thanked the staff behind the counter and wished them a good night, police say.

The thief pounced after parking his ute outside the shop in Penshurt Street, Penshurst, in Sydney's southwest, about
         10.30pm (NZT) on Sunday night.

Armed with a screwdriver, the arachnid-themed crook demanded the two workers hand over cash.

"Staff handed the takings to the thief, who repeatedly thanked them and wished them a good night," a police statement said.

"The robber left the store and drove off in a grey-coloured utility."

Detectives are still hunting the man. He is described as Caucasian, 178cm tall with a medium build.

He was last seen wearing a blue sweater, grey or blue shorts and white sneakers.
