An English grandfather has won US$2.6 million (NZD $4.53million) in an international poker contest after only ever playing for fun in a seaside casino.
John Hesp, from Bridlington, had only ever staked £10 a time playing poker in the East Yorkshire resort.
But the former caravan salesmandecided to fulfil his dream of entering the Las Vegas World Series of Poker Main Event and raised the $10,000 buy-in to take part.
Despite the tournament attracting professionals from across the world vying for the US$8 million jackpot, the 64-year-old came fourth, taking home US$2.6 million.
Speaking to PokerNews, he said: "I've absolutely loved it, I've lived the dream. I just hope I've spread a little light, happiness and fun in the game.

"I won't be turning into a professional poker player. I want to stay an amateur, stay having fun and enjoying tournaments and competitions."
Before his triumph, his biggest win was £785 (NZD $1368) from his local Napoleon's casino. Hesp was able to beat more than 7,000 other players - including top poker professionals - to make it to the nine-player final where he was the oldest in the game.
He entered the final table after accumulating 85 million chips - the second-biggest chip stack.
The grandfather-of-seven said: "I'm to poker what Donald Trump is to politics, an amateur. I said to my wife about three months ago, 'Would you mind if I went and played?' and came with a pal of mine from Bridlington."
He put his luck down to his multi-patterned jacket, bright shirts and Panama hat.
Hesp added: "I've tried to bring a bit of light to my small town where I was born and raised. I know they have all been rooting for me.
"I'm sorry I couldn't do any better for you all, but I've had a ball."
