Pakistani authorities seize huge hashish haul

Airport authorities in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital yesterday seized hashish worth $US10 million ($22.7 million) bound for Canada.

The one tonne haul was hidden in 57 of 70 cartons containing uninflated footballs.

Last year, Pakistan seized about five tonnes of opium, eight tonnes of heroin and 72 tonnes of hashish, most of it in the southwestern province of Baluchistan bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
