A Cairns woman had a rude awakening when she was reportedly bitten by a snake in her sleep.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was bitten just after 5am local time at a home in the suburb of Westcourt.

The ABC has reported the woman was asleep when the reptile struck.

An ambulance spokeswoman said she was taken to hospital in a stable condition with two puncture wounds to her nose.

The species of snake is unknown. Later this morning, a southeast Queensland man was bitten on the foot by an unidentified snake in the yard of his North Lakes home.

He is in a stable condition at Redcliffe Hospital.
