PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) " Two police officers and a forensic pathologist from Germany arrived in Trinidad & Tobago on Monday to help local authorities solve the slaying of an elderly German couple on a beach near their vacation home.
Hubertus and Birgid Keil were found hacked to death Nov. 22 near their villa in the upscale Tobago community of Bacolet Bay. Both in their 70s, the husband and wife had been coming to the island for over 15 years and were well-known in the suburb of Tobago's tiny capital, Scarborough.
In a Monday statement, the Tobago House of Assembly's tourism division said the German investigators will work closely with the local police service. It also revealed that "persons of interest" have been identified by detectives.
There have been no arrests and local police have provided few details of their investigation. No motive for the slayings has been made public. The German couple's residence was not disturbed.
An autopsy conducted last week found the Keils had been nearly decapitated in the attack.
