On Tuesday afternoon, a business vehicle advertising "ground-penetrating radar" equipment arrived at the home.
Australian Federal Police (AFP) have been drawn into the investigation, with the former tenant of the property believed to have been arrested in NSW on unrelated charges.
Channel Nine has reported police found crudely-drawn maps in the house that are believed to identify the corner of George Street and Rawson Place in Sydney, near the city's central station.
The maps also reportedly identified a site in Newcastle. More than 50 kilograms of explosive material was retrieved from the house including one known as DMDT, Channel Nine reported.
The chemical is said to have been used in the 2005 London bombings. Police conducted a series of more than a dozen controlled detonations to dispose of the chemicals on Thursday and Friday last week.
NSW police are refusing to comment on the investigation, as is the AFP.
The Australian Defence Force will examine the interior of the home on Tuesday.
A woman who said her children owned the house spoke with detectives in the driveway. Helen Clark said her children have been informed about the nature of the police involvement with their property.
She said she had never met the tenant. The man is in custody in Newcastle, facing charges of wounding, assault, weapon and drug possession from 2012.
He is due to appear in court in NSW later this month.
The whereabouts of a woman who also rented the house are not known. It's understood the pair fled after falling behind in their rent.
