The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is "comfortable" with progress over efforts to free a New Zealander being detained in Yemen.
The ministry said it knew where journalist Glen Johnson, 28, was but had been unable to contact him directly.
But it was in daily contact with Yemeni authorities through the New Zealand Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and the British and Canadian embassies accredited to Yemen were also helping.
