Text messaging has eclipsed the telephone to become the most frequent form of communication among American teenagers, and girls send more than twice as many messages as boys, a University of Michigan study shows.
The average adolescent sends or receives 50 or more messages a day. Girls typically send and receive 80 messages a day compared to 30 for boys.
