News Corporation has set up a 24/7 hotline for employees to report "illegal activity".
Journalists at News International, a division of News Corp, have been told to call the hotline to report suspicious colleagues in a clampdown on corruption and other illegal activities following the closure of News of theWorld earlier this year.
The policy was circulated by News Corp's chief compliance and ethics manager, who stressed employees were obligated to report any suspicious activity amongst their co-workers.
Employees who suspect violations of the company's ethics policy "must report them to the legal department of the business unit or of News Corporation, or to the News Corporation alertline," reported the Independent.
News Corp pledged to support anyone who wrongly accuses a fellow employee.
"If you make an honest complaint in good faith, even if you are mistaken as to what you are complaining about, the company will protect you from retaliation," its policy states.
