Convicted marijuana smuggler Schapelle Corby has missed out on a two-month cut to her prison sentence because she was caught with a mobile phone in her Bali jail cell, prison authorities say.
But fellow Australian, Bali Nine heroin trafficker Renae Lawrence, has had her 20-year jail term shavedby three months to mark Indonesia's national Independence Day holiday today.
Under the Indonesian system, all prisoners are eligible for remission on Independence Day and some religious holidays, if they have served at least six months of their sentence and are not sentenced to either life in prison or death.
Lawrence was one of three foreigners in Bali's Kerobokan Prison to receive a sentence remission, prison governor Ilham Djaya said.
Ten prisoners jailed over the Bali terrorist attacks also received remissions of up to five months, he said.
He said Corby would have received a two-month remission but had been caught with a mobile phone in her cell.
Corby had the phone for one week before she was caught on July 23, and was placed in isolation for a week as punishment, Djaya said.
"Corby didn't get a remission because she kept and used a hand phone in her cell," he said.
The Queenslander is still awaiting the outcome of a final Supreme Court appeal, in which she is attempting to overturn or reduce her 20-year sentence for bringing four kilograms of marijuana to Bali.
