Mice-munchers on mat

The RSPCA has appealed in the Brisbane District Court for harsher penalties against three men involved in a mice-munching contest.

Event organisers Robbie Gundelach, 21, and Chris Stafford, 25, and contestant Tony McGee, 22, were fined on cruelty to animals charges after the competition at Brisbane's Exchange Hotel on April 14.

Gundelach was fined A$1250 ($1395), Stafford A$1000 and McGee A$750.

Under Queensland law, the maximum penalty for cruelty to an animal is a A$75,000 fine or two years in jail.
