Melbourne motorist lucky to be alive after brick hurled at her vehicle from motorway overbridge

A Melbourne woman was left with glass fragments in her eyes after a large brick was thrown at her vehicle from a motorway overbridge.

The incident took place at 1am on Sunday local time on the Princes Highway near Springvale, according to Victoria Police.

Police said three young people seen atop the bridge from which the bricks were hurled remained at large.

Bricks smashed through the windscreen of two cars, with at least another three cars damaged by the resulting debris, including punctured tyres.

Attending paramedics treated one female passenger at the scene after glass from a smashed windscreen entered her eyes.

Images released by Victoria Police showed the effects of the impact to the exterior and interior of the vehicles.

One photo showed the brick lying on the front passenger’s seat surrounded by glass shards across the seats and floor.

Other exterior shots showed the point where bricks had entered through the windscreens leaving glass shattered and fragmented.

“Throwing bricks from an overpass is not harmless behaviour,” senior constable Simon Jacobs said.

“This incident clearly demonstrates that such actions have serious and potentially fatal consequences.

“We are extremely fortunate that only one person sustained minor injuries, as the outcome could have been far worse.”

Police said investigations were continuing and urged anyone with any information to come forward.
