Melbourne gangland killer jailed

The man who murdered Melbourne crime family figure Desmond Moran by firing seven shots into him has been jailed for 26 years.

Geoffrey Armour, 45, had pleaded guilty to shooting dead the 61-year-old Moran in June 2009.

His lawyers also telling the Victorian Supreme Court their client had only intended to collect money from him, not kill him.

The evidence is in stark contrast to that presented by the prosecution which maintained the murder was well planned and straightforward.

Armour must serve 21 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.

Mr Moran's sister-in-law Judy Moran will be sentenced later on Wednesday after a jury found her guilty of murder for her role in the killing.

Des Moran was a brother to Judy Moran's husband Lewis Moran, a member of the so-called Carlton crew, who was gunned down while enjoying a beer at the Brunswick Club in March 2004.

Judy's children Jason and Mark have also been shot dead in Melbourne's gangland war.
