Melbourne double murder: Neighbour found decapitated head near body of pregnant woman

A neighbour discovered the severed head of a man next to the body of a pregnant woman at a property in Melbourne, Australia.

Officers attended the scene in Mt Waverley on Monday night, where they found the bodies of Andrew Gunn, 50, and Athena Georgopoulos, 39.

Ben Scott-Sandvik initially called the police after hearing yelling at the Adrienne St address.

He then made a disturbing discovery at the neighbouring property.

Scott-Sandvik told the Herald Sun the scene was something no one should see.

“Nobody needs to live knowing that this sort of thing has happened to their families.”

Georgopoulos was five months pregnant with what has been described as a “miracle baby”.

Neighbours described her as “a very nice girl” and expressed shock at the murders.

The 34-year-old suspect, who was accompanied by two large dogs at the time of his arrest, was charged today over the crimes.

He can now be named as Ross Judd.

Judd was found at Westall Railway Station, 6km away from the scene, after an extensive search of the area by helicopter and police dog.

Police believe the double murder was targeted and that Judd was known to the residence.

Photos show spray-painted graffiti on the exterior of the home that reads “betrayal, unpredictable, inevitable” and “karma is not a menu” among other phrases.

One refers to veganism with the phrase “meat is murder”.

Several homes on the street remain cordoned off as police continue investigating the matter.
