Martin Bryant 'a zombie', says mother

Australia's worst mass murderer has become an overweight "zombie".

Martin Bryant killed 35 people at Port Arthur, Tasmania, on April 28, 1996.

His mother Carleen told the Bulletin: "Martin is like a zombie. He won't speak; he just stares into the middle distance." A doctor said: "He is an overweight, shambolic wreck". Bryant, 38, is held in the hospital ward at Hobart's Risdon Prison.
