Mars rover still going strong

There were no presents, cake or balloons on Mars, but the humans who control the Spirit rover from Earth spent the day celebrating the robot's first birthday - an unexpected milestone.

Spirit and its twin, Opportunity, were designed to work for at least three months - but they are still going strong. Since their arrival on Mars, Spirit has driven over 4km of the planet's surface. The two robots have sent 62,000 images back to Earth.
