The incident perhaps could have been predicted, given the number of rat-related incidents on the subway in recent times.
In October last year a rodent was seen risking life and limb all for a pretzel, dragging the huge snack around while dodging trains.
And there was the infamous "pizza rat" just a month earlier in September 2015, which was seen doggedly making its way down a flight of stairs while chomping down on a slice.

There has also seemingly been an increase in brazen behaviour by the pests both on the platform and aboard, with one passenger even having a rat climb up his leg last March.
The man, who was sleeping at the time, received the shock of his life when he awoke to find the bold rodent had climbed all the way up to his neck.
Perhaps, considering the alleged incident on Saturday, the unnamed man can count himself lucky his neck wasn't nibbled on.
