A Canadian national is the first person to be confirmed dead in the London Bridge terror attack which also saw an Australian waitress slashed across the throat from behind as she enjoyed a post-work drink.

Candice Hedge is one of 48 people believed to be recovering in hospitals in London after one of the terrorists ran up and cut her neck as she sat in a bar.

France's Foreign Minister has confirmed that a French man was killed in the attack. Seven people from France were injured, four critically. One is still missing, the Daily Mail reported.

Another victim, New Zealander Oliver Dowling, 32, is in a coma after being stabbed in the face during the attack, which also injured his girlfriend, Marie Bondeville, whose condition is still unknown.

A British Transport Police officer was stabbed in the face, while Scotland Yard has now confirmed an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer was also among those injured.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said one of his country's citizens was among those killed in the London Bridge terror attack.

One Spanish resident is among the injured, the country's foreign minister has confirmed.

The mother of one of the victims, 23 year-old Daniel O'Neill, who was stabbed in last night's attack, said outside King's College Hospital: "He just stepped outside the bar for a second and a man ran up to him and said: 'This is for my family, this is for Islam', and stuck a knife straight in him. He's got a seven-inch scar going from his belly round to his back.

"The man ran away, Daniel headed back into the pub, there was shots fired, everybody was told to lie down, and then they were told to go downstairs in the bar.

"At this stage Daniel's friend had put a tourniquet on him and was holding pressure there, he was brought downstairs, parts of that he doesn't remember, and then the police were there and brought him in their car to the hospital.

"These people say they are doing this in the name of God, which is an absolute joke. If it wasn't religion they'd find some other excuse.

"They are callous, they are barbaric and they are absolute cowards. We will carry on as normal."

Hedge had just finished her shift at Elliot's restaurant in London Bridge and was having a drink at a nearby bar when she was attacked.

It is understood she was sitting with her back to the attacker when he grabbed her head and slashed her throat.

Hedge, who has been living in London for the past year, said the stab wound had not impacted her main arteries and windpipe.

She also posted on Facebook: 'Hey everyone, just so you know I'm doing Ok. Bit of pain but I will survive. Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes. Love to all'.

Meanwhile, Dowling 's sister revealed on Facebook that he is expected to recover from stab wounds to his face, neck and stomach, as the knife missed his vital organs.

She said: "Doctors are very happy with how he's come out the other side.

"A massive thank to the University of London Hospital for their tireless efforts in helping my brother out!!"

The officer was on duty at the time and was responding to the incident at London Bridge, where a group of men drove a van into a crowd of people.

The men then jumped out of the car near Borough Market and began stabbing people nearby with 30cm hunting knives, including the unnamed officer.

He suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, according to Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley who spoke outside Scotland Yard around 4am in London.

Another person stabbed was Geoff Ho, who was filmed clutching his neck with what appeared to be a knife wound.

A chilling tweet showed he was bravely trying to break up what he believed was a standard Saturday night brawl.

Just moments before, he posted: "Don't know whether it was stupid or noble to jump in and break up the fight outside the Southwark Tavern, but two a***s trying to do over the lone bouncer on the door isn't happening on my watch."

The bloody aftermath of the London terror attack was laid bare in video footage from inside a Borough Market pub.

A wounded man with blood spattered across his trousers can be seen sitting on the floor of The Globe pub as medics try to treat him after he was attacked by jihadi knifemen on Saturday night.

Meanwhile a police officer shouts at dozens of others hiding under tables and chairs to get upstairs and away from the carnage.

The footage was captured just yards from the Wheatsheaf pub, where the three terrorist attackers were shot dead by police at 10.16pm.

Eight minutes earlier the attackers had ploughed into crowds on London Bridge in a rented van, hitting at least 20 people, witnesses said.

The men then emerged with 12-inch knives before rampaging through Borough Market, stabbing people at random.

A dramatic search was also launched for 16-year-old Brit Asya Mustafa, who lives near London Bridge, was due home after walking back through the area where dozens of innocent civilians were crushed by a van and stabbed by three men.

However, after more than 12 hours of sheer panic from her family, she was eventually found safe and well after her phone was destroyed as she fled the chaos.

One relative said the family had been "besides ourselves" with fear.

However, another family member later posted: "Just spoke to my mum.... Asya was caught up in it and her phone lost whilst police making people run away from area. She's not home yet but apparently safe. Least we know she's alive....

"Please thank every friend that reposted posted and got asya trending. It has been so emotional and worrying. We are so glad to hear she is safe. Thank you all for your shares likes posts and concerns. It means so much to us."

Jean-Yves Le Drian, France's foreign minister, said four French nationals were in serious condition.

During an official visit to Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, Le Drian added that "another compatriot is still missing".

The anti-terrorism section of the public prosecutor's office in Paris has opened an inquiry into "assassination and assassination attempts in connection with a terrorist enterprise".
It means that judicial police and security agents from Paris will liaise with the British authorities in a major investigation of all seven deaths.

Three women and a man, all of whom were living permanently in London, are among the French nationals hurt. One woman was stabbed, and operated on all night Saturday to Sunday.

Another was thought to have suffered serious injuries to her legs when she was hit by the white van on London Bridge.

London has a sizeable expat French community estimated at more than 200,000 people.

French President Emmanuel Macron was due to meet the family and friends of all those involved, and has already started making phone calls. Macron also said security would be stepped up for legislative elections due to start in France next week "to show the force of democracy in the face of enemies of freedom".

French school children were among those injured in the terrorist car attack on Westminster Bridge in March.

Three jihadists yelling "this is for Allah" are said to be the men behind the horrific rampage that caused chaos on London streets.

The terrorists tried to storm into the busy pub in the nearby Borough Market, where a man was reportedly stabbed five times in the chest.

One witness said a "dark-skinned" man in a red tracksuit "calmly" stabbed a man three times.

One woman said she saw three people with what appeared to be their throats cut at London Bridge. There are also reports that a bystander was shot in the head in the crossfire and at least seven people have been stabbed.

Seven people have been killed and 48 have been injured, according to the Metropolitan Police.

All three terrorists were shot dead by armed police officers approximately eight minutes after the incident began. Police said the terrorists were all wearing fake suicide vests.

The terrorists are believed to have hired a white van from B&Q and drove at high speed across London Bridge swerving along the pavement in an "S shape" to hit as many pedestrians as possible.
