Kiwi shot and injured in Thailand

A New Zealander has been shot in Thailand after allegedly trying to wrestle a handgun from his step-father.

Thai newspaper the Phuket Forum reported that Jamie Smith, 30, was rushed to Dibuk Hospital in the Phuket region last night after his mother called police.

A member of police told the Phuket Forum that an argument broke out between Mr Smith and his step-father and Mr Smith was shot in the arm.

A second shot hit his step-father.

Both men suffered non-critical injuries.

Police said they would be speaking to witnesses before deciding whether to lay charges.
