A man with dual New Zealand and British nationality was found dead in a Phuket hotel room on the weekend.
Thai news organisation The Phuket News reported the man checked into a Phuket hotel on October 22 and was found dead on Sunday.
Lieutenant Chamaiporn Suphakom of Karon Police toldThe Phuket News staff found the man's body slumped in a chair.
"Staff at the hotel said that the man was feeling unwell and last Wednesday (Oct 28) moved from his room on the second floor to one on the ground floor," he said.
"Room service served the man lunch at about 2pm [on Sunday] and went back to collect the dishes after the restaurant closed at about 10.30pm. That's when they found his body.
"There were no signs of struggle and his belongings seemed to be in order. We also found a lot of prescription medicines in the room."
Police believe the man may have died from a pre-existing medical condition.
The man's body was taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town. The Phuket News reported police had notified both the British and New Zealand embassies, but were still waiting for confirmation that the man's family has been notified of the death.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said the ministry was aware of media reports of the death of a dual national in Phuket and confirmed the New Zealand Embassy in Bangkok had been notified of the death.
"For privacy reasons, we are unable to comment further on this case," the spokeswoman said.
