Former FBI agents and senior law enforcement officials told MS NOW they believed it was troubling Patel had diverted elite tactical agents away from Swat responsibilities to act as Wilkins’ detail.
Agents also said they were astonished that the director instructed those same agents to devote their time to an individual to whom the FBI had no conceivable protective responsibility.
“Not only is the assignment of FBI Swat personnel to a security detail to protect his girlfriend inappropriate, directing these highly trained professionals to babysit his girlfriend’s friend is outrageous, and demonstrative of Kash Patel’s complete lack of judgment and integrity,” Christopher O’Leary, a former FBI agent said.
The FBI denied the story. “This is made up and did not happen,” Ben Williamson, an FBI spokesman said.
House Democrats recently launched an investigation into Patel’s use of an FBI jet, requesting the bureau turn over all flight records amid reports the director used the aircraft for “date night” travels with his girlfriend, trips to sporting events and a hunting retreat.
Patel has defended his use of the plane, saying in a recent interview that he uses it “less than my prior two predecessors”.
