A toddler who fell 7m from a balcony in western Sydney had been left home alone, police say.
The 3-year-old girl was taken to hospital in a serious condition after suffering facial and shoulder injuries when she fell up to 7m from a balcony in Auburn.
A spokesman said policewould notify the Department of Community Services "because the child allegedly has been left home alone."
Earlier, the ambulance service issued a warning to parents that they shouldn't be tempted by the warmer weather to let children play on balconies.
Paramedic educator Jeffery Purse from Ambulance NSW said about 50 children fall from windows and balconies in New South Wales every year.
"A lot of the falls from balconies in New South Wales are due to chairs and light weight furniture being on balconies when children are able to access and climb over those balconies," he told reporters. "We need to take steps in New South Wales to protect our children."
