Huntley guilty of manslaughter not murder: lawyer

As the most sensational British murder trial in years approached its climax, a lawyer for the man accused of killing schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman conceded his client was guilty of manslaughter.

However, the prosecution maintained that Ian Huntley, 29, was guilty of murdering the two girls and claimed he had done so because his sexual moves towards the 10-year-olds had gone badly wrong.

Huntley denies the murders and says he killed the girls accidentally after he invited them into his house, so he could help Holly stop a nosebleed.

The jury will begin considering its verdict today.
