'God' drove schizophrenic Fijian to kill Red Cross wroker

A schizophrenic Fijian believed he was acting on orders from God when he used a cane knife to hack to death the director of Fiji's Red Cross and his New Zealand-born partner.

Fiji's High Court yesterday found Apete Kaisau, 29, not guilty by reason of insanity of the July 1, 2001, killings of John Scott and Gregory Scrivner.

He was ordered to be detained indefinitely under psychiatric care.

Kaisau was charged with two counts of murder soon after the bodies of Scott and Scrivner were found in Scott's Suva home.
