Fifty lambs found dead on a property in Tasmania appear to have been deliberately killed, police say.

The lambs were found last weekend near Oatlands in the state's midlands.

Autopsies on a number of the animals suggest they were deliberately killed and police are calling for assistance from the public.

Tasmania Police were unable to provide any other details on Wednesday evening.
